Azerbaijan's stock market doubles

There was a revival in all segments of the securities market in Azerbaijan in 2011, as a result the volume of market transactions increasing 3.8 times, State Committee on Securities (SCS) reported on Wednesday.

'The number of transactions in the securities market increased by 23 per cent, the volume by 3.8 times and amounted to 8.862 billion manat in 2011', a statement said.

The corporate securities market increased by 2.7 times and amounted to 2.144 billion manat in 2011 an increase of 13 per cent compared to previous years. Some 48 per cent of the shares of the total volume of transactions accounted for corporate securities with 52 per cent for corporate bonds.

The volume of share transactions doubled and reached 1.029 billion manat, an increase of 14 per cent during the reported period. Operations on the corporate bond market grew 3.7 times and amounted to 1115 million manat.

The primary market for corporate debt tools has increased four times to $584.7 million manat during the reported period.

The volume of transactions in the government securities market increased 4.4 times amounting to 6.717 billion manat and their number increased 1.6 times during 2011. Four per cent of the total market for government securities accounted for the share of government bonds of the Ministry of Finance, central bank notes were 10 per cent and repo operations, 86 per cent.

The number of transactions with Central Bank notes increased by 73 per cent with the volume 2.9 times amounting to 655 million manat in 2011. Primary and secondary markets of government bonds fell by 38.5 per cent, but there was an increase of revenues on various long-term bonds this year. The number of repo - operations for 2011 increased by 86 per cent and volume by 6.9 times, amounting to 5.781 billion manats. Some 99 per cent of repo-operations accounted for the Central Bank notes, one per cent for the state bonds during the reported period.
