Heydar Aliyev Int’l Airport applies new changes

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) started the departure of domestic flights from the temporary terminal from Jan. 16, built for the passengers’ sending off until the construction of a new air terminal, AZAL Spokesman  Maharram Safarli said.

Following the completion of the new air terminal construction in 2013, the passengers’ sending off from the temporary terminal will be stopped.  He said today domestic flights is carried out to Nakhichivan, Ganja, Zagatala, Lenkaran and Gabala citie.s

Deputy Chief of Azerbaijan Hava Yollari Sabir Ilyasov said earlier that the construction of the new terminal will be completed in mid 2013.

The new airport terminal, with a complex area of 58,000 square meters, will serve 3 million passengers. The four-story building will be built in the shape of a triangle.

The new terminal will have 18 escalators and 20 elevators and will house the latest technological advances used in international aviation. Passenger services will be organized at the highest international standards, applying the most advanced equipment to ensure maximum safety demands. The new complex will be able to receive eight aircrafts simultaneously. The runway at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport will be 4,000 meters long and 75 meters wide.
