Another Azerbaijani athlete, Amil Gasimov, competing in men’s -74 kg sambo event, advanced to the finals at the First European Games in Baku June 22.
In the semifinals, Gasimov defeated Martin Ivanov (Bulgaria), 4:3.
Earlier, three Azerbaijani sambo wrestlers, Islam Gasumov (-57 kg), Nazakat Khalilova (-52 kg) and Vasif Safarbayov (+100 kg) advanced to the finals.
In the semifinals, Gasumov defeated Georgia’s Vakhtangi Chidrashvili, 1:0, while, Khalilova gained a flawless victory over Ruta Aksionova, 8:0.
Safarbayov defeated Razmik Tonoyan, representing Ukraine in the semifinals.
The European Games that kicked off June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
