The first European Games in Baku surpass all other tournaments and competitions by organization, Azerbaijani female taekwondo fighter Patimat Abakarova (weight category up to 49 kg) told Trend June 16.
“Organization of the European Games is the best of all that I have ever seen,” she said. “I'm very impressed.”
Abakarova expressed hope that she will win the gold medal at the competitions.
“My female opponent, with whom I fought today (Russian Alexandra Lychagina), already defeated me on one of the tournaments, so one may say that I have taken revenge,” she said. “Naturally I am very glad that I have won.”
Abakarova will compete with Greek Ioanna Koutsou in the quarterfinals of the competition June 16.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.
There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
