Mehriban Aliyeva awards female wrestlers who won at Baku 2015

Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, who is also the Chairperson of the Baku 2015 Organising Committee, took part on June 15 at a ceremony of awarding the winners of a Greco-Roman wrestling competition in the 48 kg weight category, held as part of the Baku 2015 European Games.

The gold medal in this weight category was won by the Azerbaijani female wrestler Mariya Stadnik.

In the finals, Stadnik defeated the Bulgarian female athlete Elitsa Yankova with a score of 12:1.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
