The Synchronised Swimming duets free routine was won by the Russian duo Valeriya Filenkova and Daria Kulagina at the Baku Aquatics Centre on Monday morning.
Austrians Anna-Maria Alexandri and Eirini-Marina Alexandri won silver, while Yana Nariezhna and Yelyzaveta Yakhno of Ukraine took bronze.
"We are so excited. It is a great responsibility being juniors representing our country and great to win the first medal," said Filenkova.
The Russian coach Yuliya Grevtseva was proud of the swimmers, saying; "There were a few things that could have been improved but it was a fine performance. It’s difficult to know how good they will become but it’s a good start for us. They are very different characters but they complement each other."
Russia are on course for a clean sweep of Synchronised Swimming golds.
