In two and a half years, Azerbaijan has managed to create an excellent infrastructure and favorable conditions for the athletes and the fans that have come for the first European Games in Baku.
The preceding statement was made by Igor Levitin Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, at the opening ceremony of the House of Russian Fans in Baku on June 12.
Levetin stated that both the Olympic Village and the transportation infrastructure easily accommodate the needs of the athletes.
The House of Fans will present a unique interactive exhibition dedicated to sports competitions currently underway in Baku this June.
The House of Fans is located in the central part of the city, in the Russian Information building and Cultural Center at Khojali Avenue, 20. The house will be open for fans from June 12 to 28 everyday from 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. Admission into the exhibition is free.
At Baku 2015, the Russian will feature 367 of its strongest athletes, 317 of whom will contest for medals in Olympic sports.
“The first European Games in Baku is the most important sporting event of the year,” the President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov told reporters at the opening ceremony of the House.
The opening of the House of the Russian Fans in Azerbaijan is evidence of a very close connection between the two countries, he said.
"The cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in the field of sport is constantly evolving. Azerbaijani and Russian athletes and fans of our countries are historically tied together very much. We have a common sporting legacy formed in the Soviet era, the common cultural and historical tradition," Zhukov said.
The Baku European Games Organizing Committee does not need to pay attention to criticism and different discords, he added.
Zhukov said that different forces begin to pay attention to all sorts of petty, unnecessary, insignificant details before each major sporting event.
The Baku 2015 European Games has started off with a qualifying competition in water sports on June 12. The historic event will gather 6,000 athletes from 50 European countries throughout the 17 days of the Games.
