Azerbaijani and Turkish Diasporas in US call congressmen to eliminate funding for Nagorno Karabakh

26 May 2011 [13:20] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani and Turkish Diasporas in the US urge the American legislators to eliminate the Fiscal Year 2012 funding for the Armenia-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) region of Azerbaijan and reduce all aid to Armenia, which despite getting billions in US has been doing worse and worse every year in every aspect, including democracy and human rights.

The House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs will discuss the Fiscal Year 2012 foreign aid bill during the upcoming weeks. Therefore Azeri and Turkish Diasporas ask their members and friends to act rapidly.

On May 20, Congressman Frank Pallone, along with 28 pro-Armenian members of the Congress sent a letter to the chair and ranking member of the Subcommittee and the Department of State, asking to influence the State-foreign operations and related programs appropriations bill for the Fiscal Year of 2012. They request that the subcommittee supports Congress’s funding request for the US assistance to Armenia. Their argument is that Armenia is a very special partner of US and the bilateral relations will expand.

In order to prevent this, the US Azerbaijanis and Turks decided to hold their own campaign, according to which every Azerbaijani American and everyone else, who wishes to support them, writes a letter to their respective Congress members. Azerbaijanis and Turks also demand increasing the amount of the US funding for Azerbaijan.
