Kuwait's Zain Telecommunications Company has stopped cooperation with "Karabakh-Telecom" mobile operator, which illegally functions in the occupied Azerbaijani territories thanks to efforts of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti company had formerly signed a roaming deal with "Karabakh-Telecom", the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said with reference to the embassy.
As a result of the measures taken by the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of Kuwait, cooperation between "Zain" and "Karabakh-Telecom" was suspended and corrections were made on the company's website.
The Kuwaiti Zain Company provides mobile communication and internet services in 23 countries in the Middle East and northern and central Africa.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the occupied territories.
