
Serious problems have appeared as a result of flooding on the rivers in some regions of Azerbaijan, said the Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov.
"Today, due to the collapse of platinum on the Kura River in the city of Shirvan, the settlements intended for the IDPs and the Shahriyar settlement are in jeopardy," Hasanov said on May 7.
According to him, local executive authorities and Ministry of Emergency Situations are implementing measures to ensure safety in the settlements. "This is a natural disaster. The whole process is controlled by the state. Steps have been taken to withdraw from the situation with minimal losses," said deputy prime minister.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Azerbaijan said the situation in some cities and regions of the country is complicatedd due to recent heavy rainfall, including floods in the Kur and Araz rivers.
"To eliminate consequences of the natural disaster resulted from flooding of some areas with groundwater and rainwater, over 800 personnel of the Ministry for Emergency Situations, 186 units of equipment, 57 pumps and 63 water pumping facilities were sent to the diaster area. The work was carried out in conjunction with relevant local authorities," Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations said in its report.
