Azadlyg Fedaileri newspaper undergoes trial for libel

A preliminary court hearing on the case of Azadlyg Fedaileri newspaper on basis of the claim of ANS-Press publishing house was held in the Nasimi district court chaired by judge Mamed Mamedov.

The due information was provided by a source in the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety, Day.Az reports.

Thus, the representatives of the plaintiff, Tofik Gajiyev and Araz Tagiyev and the respondent-editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Vugar Gurdganly, attended the court hearing.

According to the editor-in-chief, their reporter Allahverdi Nebi sends information via e-mail, therefore, his participation in the process is impossible.

Defender Araz Tagiyev noted that if Nabi is the author of the article, he must be present on the court hearing.

Another defender T.Gajiyev presented the conclusion, drawn by the Council for Press, according to which, the said structure confirms the fact of libel and abusing statements, reflected in the publications of the newspaper.

The editor-in-chief petitioned for not taking into account the conclusion of the Council for Press, but his request was not granted.

Thus, the next court hearing will be held on January 8, at 04:00 p.m.

It should be reminded that the ANS-Press publishing house filed a claim against articles "ANS pornography" and "ANS everywhere with its bad manners".

The plaintiff considers that the information does not reflect the reality and are false, humiliating and abusing.

The ANS-Press publishing house demands from the newspaper to refute the words and pay a compensation in the amount of AZN 50,000. Moreover, it also demands a compensation from the reporter in the amount of AZN 10,000.
