Military plane crashes in Azerbaijan killing people - UPDATED

The investigation of the causes of crash of MIG-29 owned by the air forces of Azerbaijan is controlled by the Ministry of Defense and the results will be declared to public.

The information has been provided by the press service for the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, Day.Az reports.

Touching upon different versions of the plane crash, voiced in the press, the Ministry of Defense notes that it is incorrect to put forward various versions, as the causes of the crash have not been defined.

Azerbaijan's Military Procuracy has initiated a criminal case on the crash of MIG-29 fighter. The due announcement was made by a source from the Military Procuracy, Day.Az reports.

According to the source, Khanlar Veliyev, military prosecutor and leiutenant-general of Justice has considered the site of the accident.

In early 2007 Azerbaijan received modernized fighters MiG-29.

The fighters were presented at the air base near Baku on March 29, 2007. The planes were bought in Ukraine, yet their number and exact modification are not known.

The purchased planes were said to be better than western analogs and fighters of the Armenian air forces.

Several specialists consider that the purchased fighters are of 9-13 modification, modernized with installation of a navigation system.

The engines, modernized at the Lvov plant, can also apply corrected air-bombs and air-to-ground missiles with TV-guidance.
