Independent Azerbaijan University students to start mass protests

24 August 2006 [17:05] - TODAY.AZ
The students of the private Independent Azerbaijan University (IAU) issued statement today.

As APA reports, if their problems are not solved soon, the students will stage protest actions outside the Education Ministry, Narimanov district court and the University as well as appeal to embassies and international organizations in Azerbaijan.

The statement reads the Education Ministry's decision to close the IAU is violation of students' right to receive education.

"June 5 this year, Ministry official Ilham Pirmammadov told the students on hunger strike that the students of the first, second and third courses study legally and will be transferred to other private universities on 10 July. However, this has not been done due to the Ministry's and IAU indifference," the statement reads.

It also says the application of claim presented to Nasimi district court was dismissed with groundless reasons.
