Peter Semneby holds press conference on visit to Azerbaijan

The European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby today held a press conference on his visit to Azerbaijan.

The EU Special Representative said he had talks with Foreign Affairs, Justice and Defense Ministers as well as met with Nizami Bahmanov, head of Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh.

Mr.Semneby discussed the conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons with Mr.Bahmanov. The EU representative also had discussions on the Action Plan to be signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union. He said the negotiations are going to be over after discussion of technical issues. The Action Plan envisages cooperation in nine directions.

Speaking about his duties as EU Special Representative, Semneby said he will also deal with the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, promotion of democratic institutions, the rule of law as well as regional cooperation. The European diplomat said the Action Plan is important for Azerbaijan in terms of its integration into Europe.

As APA reports, Semneby will leave for the Armenian capital of Yerevan after that. He refused to comment on the question regarding recent arsons in the occupied Azerbaijani lands committed by Armenians.

"In Yerevan I'll try to know the causes of these fires and comment on this issue after that," he said.
