US Embassy: "Reports that US stands behind Iran events are groundless"

03 June 2006 [09:23] - TODAY.AZ
All are aware of the international concern over the situation on human rights in Iran, US charge d'affaires ad interim in Azerbaijan Jason Hyland said while commenting on Azerbaijanis demanding their rights in Iran recently.

According to APA, he said the United States has great confidence that human rights are protected all over the world as well as in Iran.

US Embassy public officer Jonathan Henick while commenting on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's statements that America stands behind mass demonstrations of Azerbaijanis in Iran protesting against the Iran Daily publishing insulting caricature, called these statements groundless.

"These events have nothing to do with the United States," the Embassy officer said.

Stating that US annual reports contain information on Iran's human rights policy, the diplomat said that the problem between US and Iran is not just only nuclear weapon, "Iran supports terrorism, troubles Israel at the same time. And we are concerned about all these problems."
