Armenian lobby looks further anxious, as COP29 approaches

04 November 2024 [20:04] - TODAY.AZ

Armenia's desire to undermine the COP29 event continues as it seeks to strengthen its strategic interests on the international stage. It appears that the revanchist factions in Armenia are looking for new ways to implement their political plans, viewing the upcoming elections in the United States as an opportunity.

These revanchist groups have become more active regarding the "return of the liberated Azerbaijani territories" to Armenia following the Garabagh conflict. This is undoubtedly a strategy by the Armenian administration aimed at finding new foreign allies.

Donald Trump's candidacy in the presidential elections presents a particular opportunity for Armenia to interfere in this electoral process. The Armenian lobby's outreach to Trump, including sending letters and establishing direct contact, is an attempt to secure its interests within the political environment of the U.S. This serves as a means for Armenia to increase its influence in the U.S. and realize its political goals.

Such diplomatic actions by Armenia must be questioned regarding their legitimacy. Armenian officials frequently make peace calls in media interviews, but behind the scenes, they continue to implement their deceitful plans. Clearly, such behavior aims to escalate tensions in the South Caucasus and delay peace efforts. To counter these maneuvers in the diplomatic arena, broader discussions and a critical approach towards the Armenian side at the international level are essential.

With only a few days left until COP29, it is unacceptable to engage in provocations in the region. The eyes of the world are currently on this significant event hosted by Azerbaijan. However, the Armenian lobby is trying to damage Azerbaijan's image on international platforms and manipulate issues that are on the agenda for its political goals.

Using the tense environment created after the conflict, the lobby attempts to undermine such an important event organized by Azerbaijan. This not only harms international cooperation but also delivers a substantial blow to the ongoing peace process in the region. Media organizations that support these efforts deserve particular condemnation.

Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 is significant for its international recognition and attention to contemporary ecological issues. This event will serve as a platform for discussions among countries to address global ecological problems.

Media outlets like the New York Times, which ignore racism, Islamophobia, and other social problems in the countries they operate in, have published articles supporting Armenia's nefarious actions while claiming there is a lack of freedom of speech in Azerbaijan.

The narrative surrounding Armenia's policies against Azerbaijan is often distorted in these media organizations, focusing solely on Armenia's perspective when discussing freedom of speech in Azerbaijan. However, just recently, the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, exposed the falsification of elections in Armenia and the lack of freedom of speech to the world. Denying these facts while attempting to tarnish Azerbaijan's reputation is simply hypocritical.

While freedom of speech is undoubtedly an important issue, it is essential to consider the context and historical circumstances of both sides. As Azerbaijan strives to promote peace and cooperation on various international platforms, it is often compelled to combat distorted information that emerges in international media. While fighting against both Armenia and its provocative policies on one side and the injustices of international institutions on the other, Azerbaijan's liberation of its historical territories and hosting a beneficial event for the region and the world, aiming to reduce carbon emissions, is a significant achievement. In contrast, the situation of Armenia, which has been propped up for over 30 years by various countries and organizations' material and moral support, is evident.
