15 March 2006 [11:12] - TODAY.AZ
"15,000 birds have been culled due to Bird flu virus. Most of birds have been culled in Khizi, Devechi and Khachmaz regions as well as Apsheron peninsula," Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources Hussein Baghirov stated.

As APA reports, the Minister said the rate of deaths among birds is declining rapidly. Previously 500-1000 birds died per day but it declined to 60-70 points.

Mr. Baghriov also said that summer migration of birds to Azerbaijan from Africa may increase the risk of Bird flu. "The birds that migrate from Africa may carry the virus. We need to continue strong precautions," he said.
