The film titled “The God of Artillery”, dedicated to Azerbaijani Aliaga Shikhlinski, Lieutenant-General of the Russian army was screened at the Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku on November 26.
The documentary was presented as part of the Russian military award, Order of St. George’s establishment day in 1796.
Head of “Russian cooperation” in Azerbaijan Valentin Denisov and the film director Ziya Shikhlinski opened the evening.
Several intellectuals, veterans, descendants of Shikhlinski, scientists, historians, teachers of universities and schools, youth and journalists attended the event.
After the film screening, Military Attache of the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan Vladimir Cherchenko, academician of the National Science Academy Teymur Bunyatov and general Makhmud Temziyev addressed the participants.
Shikhlinski was a Deputy Minister of Defense and General of the Artillery of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
He also was the first Azerbaijani, who was awarded the Officer's Cross of the France Honor Legion, which he personally handed from President Raymond Poincare.
After the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan, he worked in the Commissariat of military and naval forces. He also worked as a teacher and the deputy chief of the military school. He took part in China Relief Expedition of the Russian army.
In 1926, Shikhlinski published "Russian-Azerbaijani brief military dictionary" and then he retired. He was engaged in creative activities. Shikhlinski wrote a book "My memories" and translated many works of Azerbaijani and Russian writers.
