The German-Azerbaijan Cultural Center, Kapellhaus will host a German-French commemoration week on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
As the disaster of the century in Europe, the First World War started 100 years ago. The enemies of that time are close partners and good neighbors of today.
The German and French Embassies in Baku are going to commemorate the war anniversary in a series of events.
Commemoration week will start on November 25 with screening of a movie called “All Quiet on the Western Front” based on novel by Erich Maria Remarque.
The next day, German historian Volker Venohr will give a lecture in Kapellhaus with participation of the representative from Azerbaijan’s National Academy of Sciences.
On November 27, Farida Mammadova will perform songs about the First World War and the letters by the German, French and English soldiers will be read out at the event.
At the end of the commemoration week, the book “The war brought to light: 14-18 through stained glass” will be unveiled in a ceremony to be attended by author Jean-Claude Leskur. Also, throughout the week an exhibition of paintings of Berlin and Paris on the First World War will be held.
The events will be hold in Kapellhaus and French institute. The entrance to the events is free for public.
