Thee second meeting of an expert group, formed on initiative of the Azerbaijani government to implement recommendations of Report from the Trial Monitoring Project was held yesterday in the OSCE Office in Baku.
The group met to discuss only one topic of the recommendations: "Reform of the Pre-Trial Detention System in Azerbaijan". Experts sent from relevant ministries and departments lawyers from the domestic NGO community, practicing advocates, independent international legal experts and expert representatives of OSCE/ODIHR were exchange their ideas on the topic. In conclusion of the two-day discussion, the group agreed on a number of specific recommendations to the Government of Azerbaijan for institutional and structural changes in the police custody and pre-trial detention system.
