Wealth of Catholicos of all Armenians revealed

Millions of dollars have been revealed in the declassified Swiss accounts of Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II.

As Day reports.Az, this is reported by the Armenian media, referring to the documents of the Swiss branch of HSBC.

It is noted that the files declassified in 2015 revealed that in 2006–2007, Garegin II Nerses had 1 million, 100 thousand dollars in his account.

Later, the spokesman of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Priest Vahram Melikyan, tried to dismiss in a comment to the Armenian media, saying that "the accounts of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin have always been registered in the names of the patriarchs of All Armenians, and there is nothing strange in the fact that Garegin II had an account number in a Swiss bank."

In 2006–2007, $ 1.1 million in the account of the Catholicos had already reached several tens of millions of dollars. The fact that donations made to the church are transferred to the personal account of the Catholicos is suggestive, especially when many churches and monasteries in Armenia are in need of major repairs.
