28 January 2010 [13:00] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani MPs Ganira Pashayeva and Zahid Oruj, who are on visit to the U.S., participated in the popular television program devoted to Azerbaijan.
During the two-hour television program, the deputies spoke about Azerbaijan's history, Armenia's historical colonization in the country and establishment of the Armenian state on the Azerbaijani territory, which was accompanied by pressure and oppression of the Azerbaijani people.

They told the audience of exile of 100,000 Azerbaijanis from Armenia  in 1948-53, Armenian occupation of 20 percent of the Azerbaijani territory, genocide of Azerbaijanis in Khojali, destruction of historical monuments in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs, who can not return to their homes for over 15 years.

The program showed films prepared by Heydar Aliyev Foundation in English about Azerbaijan, genocide committed by Armenians in 1918 against peaceful Azerbaijanis in Khojali and destruction of Azerbaijani historical and cultural monuments in the occupied territories.

Deputies informed that Azerbaijan is a country with a high level of tolerance and spoke about the strategic and major regional energy projects that are important for the U.S, Azerbaijan's important role in energy security, the country's achievements in various spheres and Azerbaijan's role in the fight against international terrorism, etc.

Pashayeva and Oruj noted that the Armenian Diaspora holds anti-Azerbaijani campaign in the U.S. and other countries, trying to hide crime perpetrated by Armenia from the world.

Regarding the Section 907 adopted by the U.S. Congress on the initiative of the Armenian lobby and pro-Armenian congressmen and allocation of funds to the Armenian separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh, MPs said that the Azerbaijani people expect repeal of these decisions in the near future, as they not only adversely affect the strategic relations between the two countries, but also raise doubts about the just U.S. position as co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group.

In the run up to the anniversary of the genocide in Khojaly, Azerbaijani MPs called on the United States to assist in bringing the perpetrators of this tragedy to justice.

In the course of the program, they also exchanged views on the Azerbaijani-U.S cooperation in various fields, as well as on the processes in the South Caucasus.

The host of the program noted the need to provide the U.S. public with accurate information about Azerbaijan and the country's role in the region and world processes.

The MPs called on Americans to visit Azerbaijan, whose beauty can not leave them indifferent.
