Council of Europe’s (CoE) top position candidate believes that CoE should pay more attention to South Caucasus, including Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Movlut Chavushoglu, Chief Delegate of Turkey in PACE, has recently been nominated for PACE Presidency on behalf of the European Democrat Group.

Since Dec. 7 Chavushoglu was in Turkish Prime-minister Erdogan’s delegation.

Turkish parliamentary stated in his interview that if he “will be selected to CoE president position, he will be paying a special attention to the frozen conflicts in the region."

“Probably I will make my first visit to Azerbaijan," he added.

Chavushoglu pointed out that the Council of Europe didn’t address the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh the way it should, while there were serious human rights violations in this region.

Chavushoglu also mentioned that one of his targets will also be the more open integration of the region’s countries into Europe.

“Azerbaijan is one of the most active members of the CoE, the European values are now spread wide abroad Europe. If I become the president of CoE, I will do more work in that sphere."

Turkish parliamentary also stated that after his nomination he felt special attention and support from his Azerbaijanis counterparts.
