Azerbaijani MP suggests to postpone parliamentary elections

13 November 2009 [15:56] - TODAY.AZ
Member of Azerbaijani parliament Aydin Hasanov says parliamentary elections to be held in the country next year should be postponed.
“Yesterday the finance minister said that 50 million manat is allocated from the budget for the parliamentary elections. Why to allocate large resources to the elections while there is financial crisis in the world? Thousands of international observers will arrive in the country and it is additional expenditure to receive and host them. Then they will voice different opinions about us," the MP said.

Hasanov said the polls should be postponed until the solution of the Karabakh conflict and the resources allocated for the elections should be spent in other necessary areas.

Lawmaker’s speech was welcomed at the parliament with applause.
