“Currently, our party is nominating candidates and collecting signatures,” Azerbaijan Liberal Democratic Party Chief Fuad Aliyev said commenting on his party’s preparation for the coming municipal elections.

“Our party will nominate about 1,000 candidates, that is, for more than half of municipalities,” he said.
He said the party is in the first stage of election campaign and collection of signatures proceeds with difficulty.
"The fact is that voters do not trust the candidates, no matter from what party. They basically do not believe in the municipalities which is a big problem. Theoretically, when the creation of the first municipalities in1999, they should have granted opportunities. But over the years, on the contrary, they have diminished opportunities. Therefore, voters hardly give signature,” Aliyev said.
"The population of the country have distrust in the municipalities. People do not believe that having won municipal elections, an oppositioner can make a difference, can somehow have influence the regional level. But I think that our candidates still gather the required number of signatures,” he added.
ALDP chief said that once the registration of candidates completes, "we will try to increase public confidence in the candidates, tell about the candidates and will issue their platforms - in this area we can work and convince the public".
