The Azerbaijani Parliamentary Legislation and Legal Policy Committee recommended considering the amendments and additions to the law on "Prosecutor's Office."

On Oct. 5, at the meeting, the committee discussed a bill on amendments and additions to the law on "Prosecutor's Office" upon President Ilham Aliyev's legislative initiative.
The bill includes an item removing restrictions on appointment of the prosecutor general, military prosecutor, prosecutor and military prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), which was stipulated in the Article 16 of the law on the "Prosector's Office".
At present, under the current law, one and the same person cannot be appointed Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Republic, Military Prosecutor of Azerbaijan Republic, and Prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic more than twice.
The new bill applies this restriction to district and specialized prosecutors.
The current Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov occupies this position since April 25, 2000 and his office term will expire on April 25 in 2010. The Military Prosecutor Khanlar Aliyev has been appointed this position on Feb. 10, 2005.
