First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador, MP, Mehriban Aliyeva has been awarded the Grand Commander`s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Polish Republic.

The awarding ceremony took place Monday at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski said President of Poland Lech Kaczynsky bestowed this order upon First Lady of Azerbaijan for her contribution to development friendly ties between Azerbaijan and Poland.
Polish ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski noted Polish public is aware of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva's activity, adding her work is an example for everyone.
Krajewski praised the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s five-year activity.
The diplomat presented Mehriban Aliyeva with the Order of Merit.
Mehriban Aliyeva said she is honored to receive the order.
She said historic friendly relations between the two countries have developed even more after the two nations regained their independence.
President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation pointed out reciprocal visits of the Heads of States play a key role in developing Poland-Azerbaijan relationship.
She thanked Poland for assistance in building the secondary school in the Sarykamish village under the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s “New School for the Renewing Azerbaijan” project.
For his part, Krajewski thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for supporting Chopin Year in Azerbaijan.
