11 September 2009 [10:58] - TODAY.AZ
Vice-Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ziyafat Asgarov met State Secretary of Hungary`s Defense Ministry Agnes Vadai on Sept. 10.
Asgarov said relationship between Azerbaijan and Hungary was successfully developing. He added both countries had huge potential to expand bilateral cooperation even more.

Asgarov pointed out documents signed during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s visit to Hungary and Hungarian Premier`s trip to Baku contributed to enhancing bilateral ties.

Touching upon the Azerbaijan-NATO relations, Asgarov said military reforms in his country were underway in accordance with programs signed with the alliance.

On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, he said Armenia, violating the principles of international law, continues to occupy 20 percent of the Azerbaijani lands, and more than 1 million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and IDPs. “We would like NATO to demonstrate its resolute position regarding this issue”.

Vadai, in turn, said the purpose of her visit to Baku was to contribute to enhancing military education cooperation between the two countries. She said Hungary backs Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and respects its sovereignty.

Vadai also expressed hope that meetings of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents would contribute to settling the dispute peacefully.

She underlined Hungary attaches great importance to deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan even more. “Establishment of Hungary-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group in Hungary`s parliament is a vivid evidence of it”.

Vadai also said her country was keen on military cooperation with Azerbaijan.
