Court releases Azerbaijani citizen, ex-captain of Buket ship

The Poti court changed preventive punishment towards captain of Buket vessel, Azerbaijani citizen Ilgar Imanverdiyev.
He was released for bail worth 10,000 lari ($1-1.68 lari), the Georgian border police said.

The Poti court sentenced Imanverdiyev to two-month imprisonment as preliminary preventive punishment on Aug. 26.

Azerbaijani captain was accused of violating Georgian territorial waters and entering Abkhazia with smuggled freight when he was a captain of Buket ship operating under Panama flag.

The ship ruled by new captain Turkish citizen Mehmet Ozturk was detained in Poti on Aug. 15. Ozturk was sentenced to 24 years in jail.
