“Friendly relations between Uzbek and Azerbaijani peoples have their roots back to centuries,” Uzbek ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismatulla Irgashev said.

“Following gaining independence by both countries a new page and new opportunities were opened in bilateral relations between the two countries.”
He said Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan has rich natural, intellectual and scientific potential are key states in their regions.
“As to the Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan relations I would note that the relations between our countries are based on centuries-old friendship between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Foundation for cooperation between our countries was laid by President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov together with his friend and ally late President Heydar Aliyev,” the ambassador added.
“At present, relations between our countries are at the highest level and are of strategic nature. Our states have similar approaches on many issues including on both regional and international ones. It is encouraging that there is a close cooperation in various multilateral formats, including the UN, OIC etc.”
Today Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan actively develop cooperation in political, trade-economic, scientific-technical, socio-cultural spheres, he said.
"Trusting and friendly relations between leaders of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Islam Karimov and Ilham Aliev plays an important role in strengthening and maintaining high level of Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan relations,” he said.
