“According to the Electoral Code, every party can nominate candidates for the municipal elections."

“A party needs certain number of supporters to nominate candidates nationwide,” Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party and member of parliament Mubariz Gurbanli said.
He said Azerbaijan’s political parties are weak, this is why they face problems or do not participate in the elections at all.
“If they had opportunities, they would participate in the elections as a political party and nominate candidates. The opposition parties are irresolute to participate in elections due to weak popular support,” he said.
“Much work must be done to participate in the elections. But opposition parties prefer to speak much rather than to do much,” Gurbanli said.
