"As we are thinking about potentials and certainly Gabala has a potential. This is something we intend to explore," Steinberg told media on July 11 being on two-day-visit in Baku.

The U.S. understands that use of Gabala radar station must coordinated with the Azerbaijani government and we had a chance last night to discuss that, he said.

During the meeting of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and the U.S President Barack Obama in Moscow presidents had extensive discussions with Russian representatives about the possibility of cooperation on missile defense and missile warning. They agreed to seek opportunities to cooperate," Steinberg said.

"Certainly, we are still at the preliminary stage with Russian partners in terms of thinking about cooperation possibilities . But the U.S president has made it very clear that our first preference will be search for final ways of cooperation and Gabala radar might be a part of those discussions," Steinberg said.
