Russian FM: Our cooperation with Azerbaijan is also partnership close to alliance

"Close foreign policy priorities are important factors for strengthening stability and security in the Caucasus", said director of the fourth department of the CIS states at the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Kelin.
"This was especially obvious during Georgia's aggression in South Ossetia in August of the last year", he said Monday during a report in frames of the international conference "Armenia at the junction of communication".

Kelin noted with satisfaction that Armenia rejected participation in trainings under the NATO auspices, "which, we believe" could arise instability and worsen the situation".

"Russia's main interest in the Caucasus is a reliable provision of peace, which could help restore economic ties in the region that could flourish", said he.

Noting that Russia is actively cooperating with Azerbaijan and Turkey, the diplomat said "on a number of features our cooperation with Azerbaijan is also partnership close to alliance".

"Though Baku, unlike Yerevan, does not take part in the integration association, through which we build the external policy on this area", added Kelin.
