Vice speaker: I do not think Law on Defamation will be presented for discussion soon

"The draft law on defamation might once be presented for discussion but I do not think it will happen soon", said vice speaker of Milli Medjlis of Azerbaijan Bahar Muradova?

Some time ago the council of press and some journalist organizations appealed to the parliament about presenting the draft law on defamation for discussion.

The draft law was prepared under support of the OSCE Baku office in 2005. The draft law preparation involved deputies Ganira Pashayeva, Azay Guliyev, representatives of journalist organizations and lawyers.

International organizations speak for exclusion of articles 147 (defamation) and 148 (humiliation), envisioning criminal responsibility from the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
