MP urges to recognize nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as genocide of Japanese people

03 April 2009 [15:04] - TODAY.AZ
US congress has no moral right to make a decision to recognize 1915 events in Turkey as the so-called "Armenian genocide", said chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanquliyev at a session of parliament today.
"Before making political and legal decisions on tragic events that occurred somewhere, Americans should first pay more attention to their own history and make a legal assessment to their own actions. The US congress should primarily condemn genocide committed several centuries ago against the aboriginal population of America -Indians. Moreover, it is necessary to give a political and legal assessment to the gravest crime against humanity, committed by Americans against civilians of Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945", said he.

According to Hasanquliyev, tens of thousands of people died in the result of nuclear bombing in the Japanese cities and the ancestors of these residents today suffer from radiation damage.

The deputy appealed with a proposal to Milli Medjlis to adopt a statement addressed to the Japanese, Turkish and US parliaments for them to express their attitude towards this inhumane fact.

"Only after the actions of Americans in Japan are assessed, the US congress will have a moral right to make a political and legal assessment to the events that occurred in any states in different historical periods", noted he.
