Settar Mehbaliyev: "No more than 1000 people have lost jobs due to the staff reductions"

"The reports about mass reduction of employees in Azerbaijan are not true.

Most large enterprises have already recalled the employees sent on leave. Not more than 1000 people have lost jobs due to the staff reductions, chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation Settar Mehbaliyev told APA. According to him, the biggest steel company in Azerbaijan Baku Steel Company, which suspended work some months ago, has restarted and recalled about 1000 employees sent on leave.

"1000 employees of Sumgayit Boru-Prokat plant were also sent on leave. Talks were held with them. According to the reached agreement, those employees will get a part of their salary. Talks are being held for recalling the employees sent on leave," he said.

Settar Mehbaliyev said staff is mainly reduced in the enterprises selling products to CIS member states.

"Our companies want to sell their products to the local enterprises. Talks are being held to sell the products of Sumgayit Boru-Prokat plant to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic," he said.
