Yulia Latinina: "Azerbaijan has many allies and potential partners. Armenia has the only ally - Russia. Why not give arms to such good people to make Azerbaijan more compliant"

02 February 2009 [13:44] - TODAY.AZ
Armenia is Russia's only ally in the South Caucasus, not considering such wonderful formations as South Ossetia and Abkhazia, said one of the leading political reviewers of Russia Yulia Latinina, regarding the free supply of Russian military hardware of a total of $800,000,000 to Armenia.

"Armenia is the CSTO member, while Azerbaijan is not and to all suggestions to join CSTO, Azerbaijan said politely: "We cannot, as Armenia is there". Russia always answered that Greece and Turkey are also NATO members. As far as I understand, there were even some talks to dismiss CSTO and create a new formation in case Azerbaijan agrees to join the organization", noted Latinina.

She said another thing is that Azerbaijan has many allies and potential partners, while Armenia has the only ally- Russia.

"Why not give arms to such good people to make Azerbaijan more compliant? Anyway, Azerbaijan is obviously not on the list of the countries to be subjected to Russia's strong pressure like Georgia and Ukraine. This is a country with which Russia will negotiate. The explanation is that the current leadership of Russia presses on the states, where democrats came to power in the result of revolution", said she.

According to her Azerbaijan is not on the list of the countries, which sold themselves to the United States.

"Even so more, in Azerbaijan Russian special services can sometimes terminate Chechens, whom they don't like and there can never be scandals in this issue. Russia is quite sensitive to the politeness of the kind.

"I would not expect any unpleasant actions for Azerbaijan, except for those, which occurred after Azerbaijan demonstrated principality and did not cut gas supply to Georgia by the Kremlin's demand", concluded the reviewer.
