Estonian ambassador: "We view Azerbaijan as one of the most important alternative energy sources suppliers"

According to him, Estonia, like Azerbaijan is a part of Europe and European energy security influences all of us.

"Thus, if cooperation with Azerbaijan ensures the energy security of Europe, it would be good for Estonia as well", noted he.

"If we take a look at the map of Europe, we will see that Estonia is in a side from possible direct corridors between our countries. Therefore, I think there will not be any direct energy projects between our countries. But despite that Azerbaijan is the most important alternative for Europe and Estonia, at the same time".

He also spoke of the 2008 plans to open an embassy in Azerbaijan last year.

"But the current economic situation in Europe and in our country made us to think of not closing existing embassies, not of opening new ones. O tjoml despite all our plans, our capabilities will be low in the next two years", noted he.

He said however, they are satisfied much with the development of the relations between Azerbaijan and Estonia, especially in the past few years.

"We always maintained good relations, our people had known each other for long. The political relations have earlier been good though not very active. Now the situation has changed for good. There have been many visits from both sides, we have reached the highest level - the visit of the Estonian President to Azerbaijan. And we hope the President of Azerbaijan will soon come to Estonia. This also indicates that our relations are on an excellent level. Certainly, the relations could be developed to the highest level, but the current level pleases us a lot", noted the ambassador.
