26 January 2009 [13:39] - TODAY.AZ
Activists of the Azerbaijan Popular Front initiative group face obstacles in collecting signatures on establishment of the initiative group due to conduction of a referendum on amendments to the Constitution, said chairman of the Classical Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Mirmahmood Miralioghlu.

He said the first interference with the process started with detention of the party activist in Aghsu region of Azerbaijan.

"Such interference occurs in most regions of Azerbaijan. Three activists have already been detained. Yet the parties continue collection of signatures, we have our own schedule and in the near future we are planning to present them to the Central Electoral Commission.

As for the cooperation of opposition, we assist each others on common issues. Cooperation between the political powers is also not excluded in period of agitation", noted he.

Notably, the referendum on amendments to the Costitution is planned to be held on March 18.

The Azerbaijan Popular Front initiative group was founded by the parties, represented in the Union for Democracy. The agitation group is against conduction of a referendum.

Notably, the union includes the Popular Front Party, Azadlyg party, Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (the party is represented by Milli Medjlis deputy Panah Huseyn), Great Azerbaijan Party and National-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan.
