Mazahir Panakhov: "Some initiative groups collect signatures under pretense of returning bank deposits"

23 January 2009 [10:16] - TODAY.AZ
The chairman of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panakhov appealed to voters.
According to APA, in his appeal Mazahir Panakhov urged the voters to be attentive during the collection of signatures by the initiative groups.

He said the citizens of an independent state must feel their responsibility in connection with the elections and a referendum and to be aware what for they are signing.

"The top of the lists fixes the cause of the signature collection. If these lists contain inaccuracies, voters may appeal to the Central Election Commission. I urge the Azerbaijani voters to pay maximal attention to it".

Panakhov  noted that some initiative groups are collecting signatures under pretense of returning bank deposits of the Soviet period (Zagatala-Balaken), improvement of electricity and gas supply (Sheki), census enumeration (Samukh).

"From all regions we receive claims of such type. We condemn those who collect signatures this way. The citizens and structures, willing to take a responsible part in progressive changes in the Azerbaijani life, must restore their activity as required by the law".

Notably, the referendum of amendments to the Azerbaijani Constitution will be held on March 18.
