Mubariz Gurbanly: "We are going to prove to opposition that the amendments to the Constitution are natural, important and timely"

"Any political organization has a right to create an agitation group on referendum due to the changes to the Constitution of Azerbaijan", said deputy executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan party Mubariz Gurbanly, commenting on the creation of a new agitation group by opposition.

He said the Yeni Azerbaijan party is ready to hold discussions with the agitation group, which speaks against holding a referendum.

"We are going to prove to opposition that changes to the Constitution are natural, necessary and timely. At the same, the final word should be said by the people. I think people will support this idea", said he.

As for reality of the statement of the opposition that the referendum conduction issue must be initially coordinated with opposition by way of a dialogue and  only after that put for wider discussion, Gurbanly said:

"In every country, including, in Azerbaijan the amendments to the Constitution are regulated by the law. We have done everything that is required by the law. The said issue was discussed in the parliament after consideration in the Constitutional court and now put for consideration by people", said deputy executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan party.

Gurbanly also announced that the party is holding a successful campaign of signature collection on creation of the agitation group.

"The campaign is expected to be completed on Monday. After it the activists will check the signatures and submit them to the Central Electoral Commission on Wednesday", noted Gurbanly.
