Azerbaijani oppositional parties collect over 10,000 signatures for restoration of proportional system

The initiative group for restoration of the proportional system of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan continues the campaign of signature collection, said head of the steering committee of the initiative group Vahid Nazarov.

He said over 10,000 signatures have been collected.

"The Liberal Party of Azerbaijan and Civil Development Party are assisting us in signature collection. It is planned to continue the signature collection until January 30. A conference with participation of all political parties to definite further actions will be held after that.

We are planning to execute this idea until the end, even in case any parties reject to join us", said Nazarov.

It should be noted that currently the elections in Azerbaijan are held by majority system. Before 2002 Azerbaijan had had a mixed electoral system. The constitutional reforms were adopted at a referendum held in 2002 and the proportional electoral system was fully eliminated.
