100 Iranian air force jets hold trainings in direct proximity to Azerbaijani border

20 October 2008 [10:46] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian mass medias report that wide trainings of air forces have been held in the Eastern Azerbaijan.
The aim of the training was the preparation for the "air offensive against Israel".

The maneuvers involved about 100 air force jets - old pursuit planes, produced in the United States in the 1970s and local Saegheh. The jets managed to fly about 1,200 km, which equals to a distance from Iran to Israel. The fueling was conducted by the help of Boeing 707 air tankers.

In August, commander of Iranian air forces general Ahmed Migani announced that the range capability of Iranian armed forces "tops 3,000 kilometers". The statement of the general and current maneuvers cause ambiguous reaction of the specialists. Most of them doubt that the Iranian air force jets, which should rather be kept in the museum of aviation and not on the military base, will be able to rise in the air.

The aim of the trainings is a propaganda, targeting the Iranian audience, though maneuver authors also said that they apply "a new electronic weapon", which can deafen the US radar FBX-T, received by Israel. Israeli servicemen have not yet announced anything about such attempts.

In turn, military sources from the United States reported that territories in Azerbaijan and in Georgia may be used for attacking Iran, when necessary. Trainings of the Iranian air force jets were held in direct proximity to the Azerbaijani border.
