Armenian Prime Minister: "The statements about the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan are dangerous if other principles are ignored"

11 October 2008 [13:08] - TODAY.AZ
The Karabakh problem must be settled in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group and through negotiations, said Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan before the meeting with US vice president Dick Cheney in Washington.
Spokesman for Armenian Prime Minister Diana Mnatsakanyan said that the Armenian Prime Minister considered the attempts to take the problem solution beyond the OSCE MG frames to be inadmissible.

At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that Armenia is ready to continue negotiations on the basis of Madrid proposals. In this sense, the Prime Minister called the statements on the principle of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan to be dangerous if other principles are ignored, which creates false expectations.

Moreover, the Armenian Prime Minister and Dick Cheney discussed the results of the visit of Turkish President Abdullah Gul to Yerevan. Sargsyan noted that the visit may become a positive sign for the resolution of the bilateral ties.

The Armenian Prime Minister also voiced concerns over the statements, made after the visit of Gul to Yerevan, as well as the speech of Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov from the UN tribune.

According to the Prime Minister, the structural approaches of Armenia both inside the country and abroad are often perceived as weakening of positions in the negotiation process, while this is a demonstration of a political will for compromise.
