An Azerbaijani may become a member of Lithuanian seym

Azerbaijani Mahir Hamzayev is taking part in the elections to the Lithuanian seym to be held on October 12, reported the press service for the state committee for work with Azerbaijanis, residing abroad.
Reports say that Hamzayev claims for a seat in the seym by the line of the Party of the United Movement of Lithuanian Liberals. This party is chaired by member of the working seym Eligius Masulis.

As is reported, one of the party leaders Gintaras Steponavichus is a deputy chairman of the Lithuanian Seym.

Sources from the state committee noted that Hamzayev takes part in the elections both under single and double-mandate systems. Thus, under the single-mandate system Hamzayev is a candidate from the Zarasay-Visaginas district just 160 kilometers away from Vilnius. Orthodox Russians are mostly settled here. By the party principle, Hamzayev is on the 23th place in the list of 100 candidates to the seym.

The elections will notably involve candidates from 21 parties. On the whole, the country accounts for 71 constituency. 71 deputies are elected from the single-mandate districts and 70 by party lists.
