Talks on Karabakh conflict held in New York - UPDATED

OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have released a joint statement.

APA reports with reference to the website of the US department of state that Matthew Bryza (USA), Bernad Fassier (France) and Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia) met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on September 24 and on September 26 they held a meeting with Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov and Armenia Edward Nalbandyan.

Moreover, on September 24 the co-chairs reported to special representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office Heikie Talvitie about the recent processes in the negotiations.

By results of the talks, the co-chairs stressed the constructive atmosphere and the intention to intensify the negotiation process. The sides discussed possible holding of the meeting of the presidents in the nearest future. Voicing the position of the governments and OSCE, the co-chairs stated again that Nagorno Karabakh conflict can not be settled by force.

"I hope we can do much if peace and stability are achieved in the Caucasus", said Foreign Minister of Turkey Ali Babacan speaking at a press conference by results of the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He said that peace and stability in the Caucasus will improve the geopolitical situation in the region. He announced that the meeting participants discussed the situation in the Caucasus, the Caucasus Stability and Cooperation Platform and Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mamedyarov noted that the meeting creates opportunities to settle the problems, existing between the country.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan thanked Babacan for organization of the said meeting. He said the Armenian leadership praises the initiative of the Caucasus Stability and Cooperation Platform.

The next round of talks on the Karabakh resolution was held in New York between Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov and OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, as well as Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.

According to the press service for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the sides noted that the recent events in the region caused the need for intensification of the negotiation process, reports Interfax-Azerbaijan.

The Ministers also held a one-on-one meeting.

Moreover, Mamedyarov took part in a trilateral meeting with his Turkish and Armenian counterparts. During the meeting, the sides discussed Turkey's initiative on creating the Caucasus Security and Development Platform. Highly appreciating the role of this platform in the establishment of a long-term stability in the region, the sides stressed existence of threats in the region. By results of the meeting, the Ministers made a brief statement for press.

On the same day, Mamedyarov signed an intergovernmental agreement on mutual visa-free regime for citizens with diplomatic passports with the Foreign Minister of Mexico.

The Ministers discussed regional, international and energy issues.
