Presidential candidate to file claim against Central Election Commission

20 September 2008 [09:03] - TODAY.AZ
"The decision of the Central Election Commission, according to which, I will not be allocated means from the state for holding the agitation campaign, does not meet any standards", said presidential candidate and chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Qudrat Hasanquliyev.

According to him, the Central Election Commission does not correctly explain its intention not to allocate funds to the candidate for holding the agitation campaign.

"They blame us for the failure to gain the necessary number of votes. Yet voting results were eliminated in 614 constituencies in 2003. This is more than 10% of votes. It is still unclear for whom these people have voted. If the results had been made public and according to them I had gained less than 2% of votes, their decision would have been right.

Moreover, the commission states that we should have returned this money before. If it was like that, the Central Election Commission should have filed a claim against us immediately following the 2003 presidential elections. But no one did it and only now they say that we must return money to the state.

Moreover, the said demand is spread not to all of the candidates, who took part in the 2003 elections and did not gain sufficient number of votes. Do they differ from us?", said Hasanquliyev.

He stressed the intention to file a claim to the court due to such an injustice.

It should be noted that at the previous presidential elections, Hasanquliyev gained 0.5% of votes.
