Musavat party has released a statement on the influence of events in Georgia on Azerbaijani economy.

According to the statement, Russia's invasion of Georgia caused a threat to independence, territorial integrity and Azerbaijan's integration into the democratic world and economic security of the country.
"Though a reconciliation was achieved in military actions, there are still difficulties in supplying energy sources, belonging to Azerbaijan, to the world and regional market. The explosion and fire on the carriage of cisterns of gasoline near Gori even deepened party's concerns", says the statement.
It is noted that in the result of events in neighbor country, the Azerbaijani economy sustained losses of billions of dollars. The impossibility of fulfilling commitments before the foreign partners increases the potential losses in investments to country's economy.
Musavat considers that the situation is another sign of unsuccessful economic policy of powers, resulting in the one-sided development of the country's economy and its complete dependence on energy sources.
"By results of the first half of 2008, the share of energy sources in country's export reached 96% and the budget transfers 70%. The share of energy sources in GDP makes 60%. Due to it, the events in Georgia create serious problems for national economy", says the statement.
Musavat considers that Azerbaijani government should draw a lesson from the recent events and reject the one-sided economic policy, they conduct. "The government should initiate institutional economic reforms, put an end to euphoria of oil dollars and irresponsible expenses, strengthen fight with corruption and create conditions for firm economic grounds and future of citizens by means of such steps", says the statement.
