Unsanctioned picket of Musavat party activists dispersed in Baku - UPDATED

A group of Musavat party activists attempted to hold an unsanctioned protest in front of the Baku mayor's office, reports Day.Az with reference to the press service for the party.

"Police released all activists of the Musavat party", said head of the central office of the party Arif Hajili.

He noted that Sabail district police officers made an oral warning to all the activists and released them.

As for whether the party will hold the protest actions, Hajili said:

"Today Musavat party chairman Isa Qambar will receive all the detained activists in the office of the party. During the meeting, the sides will discuss prospects of holding mass actions", said Hajili.

As is reported, a group of Musavat party activists gathered near Baku mayor's office with a slogan, demanding to ensure right for freedom of assembly.

During the action, Musavat supporters read a resolution, yet were further dispersed by the police officers.

13 activists were detained and are currently in the 9th police station of Sabail district.

Among the detained are Mustafa Hajibeyli, Ahad Mamedov, Murad Kerimov, Mazahir Heydarov, Mikail Rahimli, Afgan Mukhtarli, Yusif Tagiyev, Huseyn Melikov, Fahreddin Abbasov, Yashar Turkezar, Saadar Turkezar and Bakhtiyat Tagiyev.
