"The resource nationalism" has turned into the major motive, used by the Azerbaijani authorities, said representative of Freedom House Christopher Walker at the hearings on Azerbaijan in the Helsinki Commission of the US congress, Day.Az reports with reference to Azadlyg radio.

The radio explains that "resource nationalism" implies consolidation of powers at the cost of currency, flowing into the country, against the urges of the world society to observe principles of democracy and human rights.

Criticizing the incumbent authorities of Azerbaijan, Walker stated that lag had been observed in the sphere of democratization and in all civil spheres through the past period.

"Under the authoritarian powers, oil revenues cause greater suppression of democratic institutions and consolidation of powers. The Azerbaijani authorities even do not try to imitate creation of institutions, responsible before people and transparent for public", said he.

Quoting on Ali Ahmedov, deputy chairman and executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan ruling party, Walker noted that the Azerbaijani authorities try to follow way of Belarus and Kazakhstan to pass to the model of life-long presidency.
